Rothwell Town Council is excited to announce a groundbreaking development for our community – whilst in its early stages, our vision for a brand-new sports and leisure facility!
Sourced through diligent efforts by the Town Council, working in partnership with Persimmon Homes plc, the facility will be situated on prime land, to the East of the town that is flat and so lends itself perfectly to the development of football pitches. This marks a significant milestone in the Town Council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life and well-being of our community members but also that of Persimmon Homes, who recognise that significant house building must be mitigated, and should provide positive local benefits, hence showing their support for a project that will have a beneficial impact on the community.
For more than a decade FC Aztec have been liaising with the Town Council regarding access to land to enable the club, which coach’s 400+ children on a weekly basis, to continue to grow and develop.
It is hoped that the facility will not only become the home of FC Aztec, but initial plans suggest that it could perhaps include a hard, flat surface to enjoy running and biking, something that the town lacks and something for everyone to enjoy. We will also adopt a spinney that could house a trim trail and maybe an additional outdoor gym for the town. The possibilities at this stage are endless!
In addition to fostering football activity, it is hoped that the facility will serve as a hub for social interaction and community engagement through the development of a clubhouse, providing a welcoming space for residents to connect, perhaps participate in group activities and build meaningful relationships.
Our vision recognises the importance of sustainability and accessibility in modern recreational spaces. As such, the facility will incorporate eco-friendly practices and be fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, ensuring that everyone in our community can benefit from its offerings.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the future of Rothwell and creating a vibrant, inclusive community for generations to come. The project already has the backing of key stakeholders offering both support and funding.
